Daily and situational recovery prayers

Morning — willingness for today
Higher Power, I do not need to solve my whole life today. Help me stay honest, sober, teachable, and connected for the next twenty-four hours. When fear or craving narrows my thinking, remind me that I can pause, ask for help, and choose one safe action. Give me willingness to do what recovery requires today.
Before a meeting
Higher Power, help me arrive willing to listen instead of compare, defend, impress, or disappear. Let me hear what is useful, speak honestly when it is my turn, protect other people’s privacy, and leave with one thing I am willing to practice.
Before calling a sponsor, mentor, or recovery friend
God, give me enough humility to tell the truth before the situation gets worse. Help me ask for help without demanding that another person fix me. Give me ears to hear what I may not want to hear and courage to act on sound guidance.
Craving — get through the wave
Higher Power, this urge is strong, but it is not a command. Help me stay in the present until the wave passes. Put space between craving and action. Lead me toward another person, a meeting, a safe place, a useful skill, and the next sober decision.
HALT / vulnerable moment
God, I may be hungry, angry, lonely, tired, overwhelmed, or simply worn down. Help me care for the real vulnerability instead of reaching for the old solution. Slow me down enough to meet the need safely.
Surrender — what I cannot control
God, help me stop fighting what I cannot control and stop abandoning what is mine to do. Give me clear judgment about the difference. I release the demand that people, feelings, or outcomes change before I can act well. Show me the next faithful step.
Fear
Higher Power, fear is telling me I must escape, control, hide, or know everything now. Help me face what is actually true. Give me enough courage for the next step, enough humility to ask for help, and enough patience to let uncertainty remain where it must.
Shame after a mistake
God, I did something I regret, but hiding will not heal it. Help me separate honest guilt from the lie that I am beyond repair. Show me the truth, the repair that is mine, and the next recovery action. Keep shame from driving me back into secrecy or use.
After a lapse or relapse — return now
Higher Power, I will not use this failure as permission to keep going. Help me get safe, tell the truth, contact support, and learn what made me vulnerable. Give me courage to return to recovery now, without waiting to feel worthy.
Resentment
God, I am angry and hurt. Keep me from feeding revenge, rehearsing injury, or using pain as permission to harm myself or someone else. Show me what boundary, truth, grief, forgiveness, or repair belongs here. Free my attention for the life in front of me.
Willingness to change
Higher Power, part of me still wants the familiar pattern even though I know its cost. I do not need perfect willingness. Give me enough willingness to take the next recovery action before my feelings catch up.
Honesty
God, help me stop editing reality to protect my image, my comfort, or my addiction. Give me courage to name what happened, what I want, what I fear, and what I did. Let truth become a doorway to freedom rather than a weapon against myself.
Humility
God, help me see myself truthfully: neither better than I am nor worse than I am. Let me receive correction without collapse, admit limits without shame, use my strengths without pride, and remain teachable.
Inventory
Higher Power, give me courage to look at my life without excuse and without cruelty. Help me notice patterns, harms, fears, resentments, strengths, and responsibilities clearly. Let this inventory produce freedom and repair, not obsession or self-condemnation.
Amends and repair
Higher Power, show me where I caused harm and what responsible repair requires. Keep me from making an apology into a demand for forgiveness or access. Give me courage to own my part, wisdom about timing and safety, and patience to let another person have their own response.
Forgiving someone without abandoning boundaries
God, help me release the wish to be consumed by what was done to me. Forgiveness does not require denial, unsafe access, or pretending trust already exists. Give me mercy without naivety, boundaries without hatred, and freedom to keep living.
Service
God, recovery was never meant to end with me. Show me one way to be useful today. Help me listen without controlling, encourage without pretending to know everything, and give what I can without needing credit.
Gratitude
Higher Power, help me notice what addiction trained me to overlook: another sober day, people who care, food, shelter, work, laughter, breath, truth, another chance. Let gratitude become action rather than a mood I wait for.
Patience with the pace of recovery
God, I want change faster than growth often comes. Help me respect the work of today instead of demanding instant transformation. Give me patience to repeat small good actions until they become a new way of living.
When I do not know what I believe
Whatever is true and greater than my isolated impulse, help me become willing to seek honestly. I will not pretend certainty I do not have. Give me openness, humility, connection, and enough trust to take the next recovery action.
Christian recovery — surrender to Christ
Jesus Christ, I cannot heal my life by willpower alone. Meet me in truth and mercy. Strengthen me to refuse what enslaves me, repair the harm I have caused, accept help from others, and use this day in love and service. Keep me near You when craving, shame, or fear tells me to run.
Prayer for family and people affected by my addiction
God, protect the people who have been affected by my addiction. Help me respect their boundaries, stop demanding quick trust, and let changed behavior speak over time. Give them support and freedom that do not depend on my progress.
For someone else who is struggling
Higher Power, I cannot recover for another person. Give them light, willingness, protection, good help, and people who can reach them. Show me what support is loving and what would become control or enabling. Help me keep my own recovery intact.
Evening — review and rest
God, thank You for carrying me through this day. Show me where I stayed aligned with recovery and where I drifted. Help me admit mistakes quickly, make a plan to repair what I can, and release the rest for tonight. Guard my sleep and prepare me to begin again tomorrow.
