Universal behavior-change loop

  1. Antecedent: what happened before the behavior?
  2. Interpretation: what did I tell myself?
  3. Activation: what emotion/body state/urge arose?
  4. Choice: what did I do or avoid?
  5. Consequence: what happened immediately and later?
  6. Replacement: what response better fits my values?
  7. Repetition: what cue will remind me to practice it again?
